Year 2 Literacy Homework Do It Now

On By In 1

Week beginning 11th December

Spellings should still be learnt weekly and reading should be done fives times per week.  Don’t forget that for every signature you bring in for your reading, you will receive a raffle ticket.  The draw will take place every Friday where there will be two lucky winners.  Remember the more times you read, the more chance you have of winning!

Note that IXL maths updates every week now and at least one hour should be done every week.  In addition to this you should now be completing the written maths homework in your green folder.  The folder is handed out on Friday and should be back in on Wednesday.  This gives myself and Mrs Gregson two days to offer help to anyone that needs help in school.

Week beginning 20th November

Spelling and reading to continue as normal.  Also can you please ensure you are completing your hour on IXL every week!  Focus on the starred questions first.  This is of course in addition to the paper maths homework that is sent out every Friday.

Week beginning 11th October

Maths – spend at least an hour on https://uk.ixl.com/math/ this hour can be done in many short blasts so that you remain fresh!  This week notice the star questions have changed.  The focus this week will be on last weeks – long division. If the Year 6 questions are too hard, try the Year 5 questions.  Remember, I’ll be checking to see if you have done this by showing everyone in class!

Reading – you should be reading everyday either aloud or to yourself.  Make sure you do at least 15 minutes every day.  Please ensure you get parent signatures after ever reading session.

Spelling – This should be easy this week as we all did so well last week.  We only have FOUR year 6 words on our board.  GET THEM LEARNT!

Things you need to be working on throughout year…

Year 6 is a challenging but fun year.  One of the things you will need to do is work hard both in and out of the classroom.  Throughout the year you will get weekly homework focused around maths, reading and spelling as well as a few larger projects to complete and share with the class.  The links and documents below will give you a head start on some of the things you will need to know in Year 6 (don’t leave everything until the last minute!).

Use the links below to access handouts that include maths vocabulary you need to learn before the SATs (some of it you will already know).
Maths vocabulary
Shape Dictionary
Roman numerals

Spelling – You will need to know all of the Year 3 / 4 and Year 5 / 6 words.  You can find these in the middle of your reading diary.  The words ticked are the ones you spelt correctly in our first week test for the Year 3 / 4 words.  Our Friday spelling test will consist of all the words that are remaining on our spelling board as well as two new ones. REMEMBER everyone in the class needs to get a particular word correct otherwise it stays on the board!  If you have lost your copy or left it at school you can access pdfs of them by clicking the links below.

As you will know by now, this school year the staff at Haddon have decided to introduce a Homework Book across the school.  This will come home with the children on a Tuesday and should be returned by the following Monday. For the children of 2K it will include:-

  1. A piece of Maths' Homework.
  2. A Hundred Square glued on the inside cover to help the children with their maths.
  3. A piece of English or Topic homework.
  4. A page on which to practise spellings of the week and handwriting.

Likewise the children will be set a target to read at least five times a week at home and doing so will help them move up the school rainbows towards the pots of gold (or a small reward!).

Although I know that we all lead busy lives please do try to make the time, just a few minutes each day, to spend time helping them with their homework, reading or writing with your children, keeping it fun, it really does make a huge difference to their progress.

Thank you
